Photography has been a part of my life since the early 1970's. Capturing images that inspire or bring beauty is very important to me. To do this I like to combine my passion for food and travel into my photography.
The period of time from 1978 to 2006 I put my love of photography on the back burner while I concentrated on my other joy in life, service to others. I served as a police officer for 30 years rising to the rank of Lieutenant and it was a career that brought me a great deal of happiness and satisfaction.
After retiring I returned to photography and decided to dedicate a good portion of my life to it. Along with my cousin Laurin Rinder we formed Rinder Smith Photography
. Laurin handles things on the West Coast from his home in Los Angeles while I take care of things here in the Chicago area.
I have written along with Laurin three books on photography: The Beginner's Guide to Stock Photography, The Beginner's Guide to Food Photography and the Beginners Guide to Portrait Photography. We also conduct photographic workshops as well as do one on one workshops from our studios.
I also sell my images as stock work at many of the largest stock agencies in the world such as:
Recently I have also started in the world of Footage and my clips can be seen at Shutterstock and Pond5.
I currently live in Bloomington, Illinois.
